‘A Country Practice’ is a meditation upon Janina Green’s early life as a working class migrant girl growing up in an industrial town in rural Victoria. Designed by Yanni Florence and edited by Helen Frajman, this tiny yet hefty book brings together a seemingly disparate collection of images which blend into a powerfully resonant mosaic.
Bucolic landscapes, intimate portraits, doctored found images, streetscapes and fragments of rural life are punctuated by recurring images of abandoned power stations, smoking chimneys and scarred and mutilated land cleared for human habitation, farming and industry; all interspersed with intimations of escape and of life outside these stifling confines.
